Minister Dlamini Zuma to Sign Co-operation
Agreement with Ethiopian Foreign Minister
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma
will today, Wednesday 17 March 2004 hold bilateral political
and economic discussions with her Ethiopian counterpart,
Minister Seyoum Mesfin in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The bilateral political and economic discussions between
Ministers Dlamini Zuma and Mesfin will culminate in
the signing of a General Co-operation Agreement and
Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement.
Minister Dlamini Zuma has been in Ethiopia this week
where she led a South African delegation to the Fourth
Session of the Executive Council of Ministers of the
African Union and will also attend the Inaugural Session
of the Pan African Parliament scheduled for Thursday
18 March 2004.
Among critical decisions of the Executive Council of
Ministers was the election of South Africa as a member
of the Peace and Security Council for a period of three
years. Other members to serve a three-year term include
Nigeria, Ethiopia, Algeria and Gabon.
On the margins of the Executive Council Minister Dlamini
Zuma deposited with the Chairperson of the African Union
Commission, Prof. Alpha Konare, South Africas
Signature and ratification of the Protocol on Amendments
to Constitutive Act of the AU and the Signature of the
Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples
Rights relating to the rights of women
During her official visit to Ethiopia, Minister Dlamini
Zuma will pay a courtesy call on both Ethiopian President
and Prime Minister Girma W/Giorgis and Meles Zenawi
respectively.
Minister Dlamini Zuma will also visit victims of female
genital mutilation at Addis Ababas Fistula Hospital
on Thursday 18 March and deliver a lecture on "Milestones
of Africas Revolution and the Challenges Ahead"
at the Addis Ababa University, on the same day.
Minister Dlamini Zuma returns to South Africa on Saturday
20 March 2004 ahead of the Asia-Africa Summit scheduled
for Durban from 23-24 March 2004.
