Arrival of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, in Addis Ababa

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the launch of the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council on the 25th of May 2004 (Africa Day). The Minister will be part of a South African delegation led by Deputy President Jacob Zuma.

The Peace and Security Council is the collective security an early warning arrangement to facilitate the timely and efficient response to conflict and crisis situations in Africa and will be the standing decision making organ for the prevention, management and resolution of conflict.

The 15 members of the Peace and Security Council were elected on the 16th of March 2004 by the Executive Council of the African Union. This day (Africa Day) coincides with the celebrations marking the formation of the OAU 41 years ago that was later transformed to the AU.
