Embassies join the Department of Foreign
Affairs and the City of Tshwane for Charity Fair
PRETORIA, The Department of Foreign Affairs and the
City of Tshwane will host the annual International Fair
on the grounds of the Union Building on Saturday, 30
October 2004. The International Fair is one of the social
and cultural ways in which the Department of Foreign
Affairs and the City of Tshwane promotes and achieves
interaction with the international community based in
South Africa and residents of the greater Tshwane area.
The fair is a cultural and gastronomic event where
Foreign Missions accredited to South Africa are invited
to exhibit their respective cultures and cuisine. At
the Fair members of the public can purchase various
international products and foods that are donated by
Embassies and High Commissions. The proceeds from the
day's activities will be donated to charities in South
Africa. Over the past seven years this event has always
been a highlight on the diplomatic calendar to showcase
the charitable contribution made by the Diplomatic Corps
represented in South Africa. At this year's event -
and together in celebrating 10 years of freedom - Embassies
and High Commissions once again demonstrated their generosity
by actively participating in the Fair.
The public will enjoy the products, foods and cultures
of the various participating countries. In addition,
the day will include a variety of activities such as
music, children's activities and local and international
cultural performances.
Entrance to the International Fair is R10.00 for adults
and R5.00 for children and senior citizens. The Fair
is open from 10h00 to 17h00.
The International Fair aims to enhance cultural interaction
between the people of South Africa, especially in Tshwane,
and members of the international community. Exposure
to international traditions and cultures will lead to
an appreciation of the diversity of the global community.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend the Fair
to demonstrate our support and appreciation for the
charitable contributions made by various Embassies and
High Commissions based in Tshwane.
