Minister Dlamini Zuma to Visit Paris,
France, 17-19 June 2004
Paris-South African Foreign Minister Dr. Nkosazana
Dlamini Zuma is expected here on Thursday 17 June ahead
of a scheduled address to a high-level Conference on
Ten Years of SA's Democracy on Friday- Saturday 18-19
June 2004.
The Conference, scheduled for the International Conference
Centre in Paris, is organized jointly by the South African
Embassy and the French Committee for South Africa led
by Yves Laurin.
The Conference is expected to attract a large number
of prominent South African and French dignitaries from
the two governments, private sector and civil society
including South Africa's Justice and Constitutional
Development Minister Bridgette Mabandla, French Foreign
Minister Michel Barnier and Dominique De Villepin, Interior
Minister.
The Conference will be opened with an audio-visual
message of support from South Africa's President Thabo
Mbeki, with Minister Dlamini Zuma and Xavier Darcos,
French Deputy Foreign Minister delivering keynote addresses.
The Conference is organized around a number of topics
including:
- Session on the end of apartheid and the foundations
of a new SA-chaired by Robert Badinter, former President
of the French Constitutional council
- The bill of Rights and the role of the South African
Constitutional Court-Justice Albie Sachs
- The Truth and Reconciliation Commission-chaired
by Adv. Denzel Potgieter, former Chairperson of the
TRC's Amnesty Committee
- SA's Social and Economic Development-choices and
challenges-Minister Bridgette Mabandla
- Role of Civil Society-Vincent Saldanha, Director,
SA's Legal Resources Centre
- Investment-French and South African partnerships;
tourism; and Black Economic Empowerment measures:
(i) Cheryl Carolus-CEO SA Tourism
(ii) Gavin Pieterse-CEO African Renaissance Investment
Management
(iii) Francois Perigot, President Medef International
- The first Free elections in 1994
- Mr Eric Raoult, Vice-Speaker of the French National
Assembly, Chairman of the French/South African Friendship
Group, former Minister
- Mr Jean Glavany, Member of Parliament, former Chairman
of the French/South African Friendship Group and former
Minister
- Ms Joelle Bourgois, former French Ambassador in
South Africa (1991-1995)
Minister Dlamini Zuma will also during the visit pay
her respects and lay a wreath at Dulcie September's
grave, the former ANC chief Representative, slain in
the 80's by what is believed to have been apartheid-era
security agents, before holding bilateral political
and economic discussions with her French counterpart,
Minister Michel Barnier.
