President Mbeki Congratulates New President of Guatemala

President Mbeki today, Tuesday - 30 December 2003 - extended the congratulations of the South African government and people to the government and people of Guatemala following successful president polls and the election of former mayor, Oscar Berger, as Guatemala's new president.

"May I take the opportunity to congratulate the government and people of Guatemala on the successful completion of presidential polls and the subsequent election of yourself as the new President," said President Mbeki.

"We wish yourself and the government of Guatemala the best in the execution of the mandate bestowed upon yourself by the people," concluded President Mbeki.
