South African Government Statement on the Indian Elections

The South African government congratulates the Government and people of India on the successful outcome of the recently held general (state and national) elections. India, the largest democracy in the world, has conducted these elections in a dignified, peaceful and orderly manner. Through these elections, India has shown the stability and power of its democratic system and the strength of its institutions.

The South African Government welcomes the outcome of these elections and the expressed wishes of the people of India. The mandate of the people of India will strengthen the hand of the new Government to continue on the path growth and in pursuit of a better life for its citizens.

The South African Government looks forward to continuing its longstanding close friendship with the people of India and to cooperating with the new government in further enhancing bilateral relations, as well as good cooperation on international and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
