Minister Dlamini Zuma to Meet Indonesian
Counterpart, Dr Noer Hassan Wirajuda, for Bilateral
Discussions, Durban, South Africa, 23 March 2004
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma,
will host her Indonesian counterpart, Dr Noer Hassan
Wirajuda, for bilateral political and economic discussions
on Tuesday, 23 March 2004, on the fringes of the Asian-African
Sub-Regional Organisations Conference (AASROC) in Durban.
Issues on the agenda, will include, among others:
The forthcoming South African elections;
The operationalisation of the African Union and
the implementation of NEPAD;
South Africa's position on recent developments in
Iraq, the Middle East, Haiti and Zimbabwe;
The recent ministerial meeting of the India-Brazil-South
Africa (IBSA) trilateral forum in New Delhi, India.
During the meeting a Memorandum of Understanding for
the Establishment of a Joint Commission on Bilateral
Co-operation between both countries will be signed by
both Ministers Dlamini Zuma and Hassan Wirajuda.
Economic Relations
There is increasing investment by South African companies
in the vast mineral reserves of Indonesia. Gencor (Ingwe)
is very active, with Iscor, Anglo-American, and Plessey
also showing interest. Murray and Roberts has an office
in Jakarta and are hoping to obtain civil construction
contracts in the infrastructure sector. In addition,
Thebe Investment has signed an agreement with Indonesian-owned
trading company PT. Prima Comexindo.
One of the biggest SA IT companies, M-Web, has a huge
investment portfolio to the tune of USD16 billion in
Indonesia.
