Statement on the Arrest of Two Alleged
South Africans in Indonesia
The South African diplomatic mission in Indonesia,
today, Tuesday 7 September 2004, confirmed the arrest
of two suspects by Indonesian police on alleged drug-related
charges.
According to the investigation instituted by the SA
diplomatic mission into the matter, the passports found
in possession of the two suspects appear to have been
forged. Department of Home Affairs records have at this
stage revealed that the two passports were issued to
people other than the two suspects.
The mission in conjunction with the Department of Home
Affairs and Indonesian police is accordingly, in a process
of verifying the fingerprints and identity documents
of the two suspects with a view to determining their
nationality.
