Deputy Minister Pahad concludes Meetings
with Representatives of Major Role Players in Iranian
Energy Industry
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aziz Pahad, during
an official visit to Iran has concluded discussions
with senior executives in Iran's state-run enterprises
in the interests of soliciting support for NEPAD as
Africa's socio-economic recovery programme and promoting
economic diplomacy between both South Africa and Iran.
Deputy Minister Pahad on Wednesday, 25 August 2004,
met with the President of the Mostazafan & Janbazan
Foundation, Mahmoud Farouzandeh. This foundation, a
major player in Iran's economic life, is essentially
a socio-economic and cultural institution whose economic
activities are focused on industrial fields such as
industries and mines, trade and transportation, tourism
and recreation, finance, agriculture, food, civil development,
housing and credit and banking.
Following discussions during which Deputy Minister
Pahad briefed Mr President Farouzandeh on political
and socio-economic developments in Africa as well as
the implementation of NEPAD, President Farouzandeh agreed
to send a team of Iranian experts to South Africa to
investigate the potential that exists in the fields
of electricity, communication and oil and energy.
In addition. Deputy Minister Pahad met with Deputy
Minister K Nemadzadeh, Head of the National Iranian
Oil Company and Mr M Ghanimifard, Executive President
for International Affairs of the National Iranian Oil
Company.
During meetings with representatives of the National
Iranian Oil Company, Deputy Minister Pahad discussed
and was briefed on the relationship between the National
Iranian Oil Company and South Africa's SASOL and PetroSA
and investments by SASOL and PetroSA in Iran. Deputy
Minister Nemadzadeh also offered to implement a training
programme for South African students at the National
Iranian Oil Company.
