Deputy President to participate in the
World Political Forum Conference in Italy
Deputy President Jacob Zuma is to pay a working visit
to Italy from 22-27 October to participate in the Annual
meeting of the World Political Forum, and also to strengthen
bilateral relations with Italy.
The theme of this year's meeting of the World Political
Forum General Assembly, taking place in Stresa, is dedicated
to the subject: "Poverty in the World: A Challenge
to Globalisation". The Forum will be hosted by
its founder, Mr Mikhail Gorbachev, the former President
of the Russian Federation.
The Deputy President will deliver an address during
the second session, on Saturday 23 October, on the topic:
"International strategy: Sustainable Development
or Charity Programs?"
He will after the conference use the opportunity to
deepen bilateral relations with Italy through holding
several meetings with the Italian political leadership.
He will have discussions with the Deputy Prime Minister
of Italy, Mr Gianfranco Fini, the Secretary of State
of the Vatican, Mr Cardinal Angelo Sodano and the General
Secretary of the Opposition Democrats of the Left, Mr
Piero Fassino.
The meetings are expected to focus on bilateral economic
and political relations, the African renewal agenda
including the quest for sustainable development and
peace as well the general fight against global poverty.
