President Thabo Mbeki to continue Consultations
in the Ivory Coast
President Thabo Mbeki, will today, Thursday, 2 December
2004 depart for the Ivory Coast to continue consultations
with all role players as part of the mandate given to
him by the African Union (AU) to assist in breaking
the political impasse that currently exists in the country.
President Mbeki's delegation will include Defence Minister
Mosiuoa Lekota and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Aziz Pahad.
The visit to the Ivory Coast by the South African delegation
follows President Mbeki's visit to the country on Tuesday,
9 November during which he held discussions with President
Laurent Gbagbo and a series of consultations in South
Africa with various parties which included the President
Blaise Compaoré of Burkina Faso; Prime Minister
of the Ivory Coast, Seydou Diarra; Alassane Outtara;
Secretary-General of the PDCI, Mandy Alphonso Djedje;
and Guillame Soro.
President Mbeki will also be joined by representatives
of the African Union's Peace and Security Council, European
Commission, ECOWAS, African Development Bank, World
Bank and International Monetary Council.
