Minister Dlamini Zuma's Statement on the Attempted Murder of Josiah Jele, Former South African Ambassador to the UN

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, learnt with shock and sadness of the reported attempted murder on Thursday 29 July of Josiah Jele, the former South African Envoy to the UN, at his home in Johannesburg.

"It is with a real sense of shock and sadness that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs learnt of the attempted murder of one of the greatest leaders our country and people have to come to know and love, Josiah Jele.

"During these trying moments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs joins millions of our people in wishing our beloved Josiah Jele a speedy recovery. The thoughts and prayers of the government and our envoys at home and abroad reach out to his wife, Catherine and family members.

"We express our conviction that the law enforcement agencies will leave no stone unturned in tracking down those responsible for such heinous deeds to ensure they face the full might of the law".

Minister Dlamini Zuma is currently in Ghana with President Thabo Mbeki where they attended the High-Level meeting to discuss the situation in Cote d' Ivoire, Darfur and Liberia. Both are expected to return to SA on Friday 30 July.
