President Mbeki Offers Congratulations to Prime Minister Abdullar Ahmad Badawi of Malaysia on His Election Victory, 27 March 2004

President Mbeki today, Saturday, 27 March 2004, offered the heartfelt congratulations of the government and people of South Africa to Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi of Malaysia on his election victory as Prime Minister of Malaysia.

President Mbeki said, "It is with great pleasure that I take this opportunity to convey to Your Excellency, on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of South Africa, sincere congratulations on your election victory."

"Since 1994 a rapid improvement of relations has occurred in all spheres, but most notably at the political and economic levels. In this regard, on behalf of the South African Government, I wish to assure you of our support in the tasks that lie ahead and of our continued goodwill."

"I look forward to the further development and expansion of our bilateral relations and multilateral co-operation during 2004," concluded President Mbeki.
