President Thabo Mbeki to Address Delegation
from Likud Party, Presidential Guesthouse, Pretoria

President Thabo Mbeki will lead a South African delegation
to a meeting with representatives of the Israeli Likud
Party, scheduled for Tuesday-Wednesday 7-8 September
2004 at the Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria.
The meeting in Pretoria, is an integral part of ongoing
efforts by South Africa to assist both Israelis and
Palestinians find a common ground with a view to developing
a just, lasting and comprehensive resolution to the
current conflict. In this context a number of meetings
have been held with representatives of both Palestinians
and Israelis since 2002 beginning with the Presidential
Spier Initiative held in Cape Town.
The South African delegation also hopes to share its
experiences with members of the Likud Party about the
transformation process that led to the dawn of democracy,
peace and justice in South Africa. In this regard, the
South African delegation includes serving and former
ministers who participated in the CODESA process.
Accordingly, the South African delegation includes
Ministers Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Mosiuoa Lekota,
Jeff Radebe, Ronnie Kasrils, Charles Nqakula, and Brigitte
Mabandla, Deputy Minister Aziz Pahad, South Africa's
Ambassador to Tel Aviv, Ambassador Rev. Fumanekile Gqiba.
Former Ministers include Valli Moosa, Pik Botha, Roelf
Meyer, Leon Wessels and former Speaker of the National
Assembly, Dr. Frene Ginwala
The Likud delegation on the other hand is led by Israeli
Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Michael Ratzon;
Michael Eitan, Chair of the Constitutional Committee
and Member of the House and the Science and Technological
Committee; Ayoub Kara, Member of the Finance Committee
and Chair of the Anti-Drug Abuse Committee; Yuli Edelstein,
Adv Karmel Shma, Arik Maimon, Sima Navon, Members of
the Central Committee; Arik Barami, Director-General
of the Likud; and Eitan Sulami, Likud Member and Campaign
Manager.
