Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma arrives in Ethiopia for the African Union (AU) Council Meeting of Foreign Ministers

Addis Ababa - South African Foreign Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma arrived here in Addis Ababa on Sunday, 5 December 2004 ahead of the African Union's (AU's) Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council of Foreign Ministers scheduled for Monday - Tuesday, 6-7 December 2004.

Minister Dlamini Zuma arrived in Ethiopia from the Middle East countries of Oman and Kuwait where she spent a week in efforts aimed at expanding the frontiers of trade, investment and tourism between South Africa and the Middle East and Asia Region.

The AU Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council has been tasked by the last AU Summit of Heads of State and Government held in July 2004 to finalise and make recommendations regarding the Programme and Budget of the Continental Organisation for the Year 2005.

While in Addis Ababa, Minister Dlamini Zuma will hold bilateral political discussions with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin. Upon arrival on Sunday, Minister Dlamini Zuma held bilateral discussions with African Union Commission Chairperson, Professor Alpha Omar Konare and Louis Michel, European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, respectively.

Meanwhile, the African Peace and Security Council meeting which was scheduled for later in the week has now been postponed. South African Deputy Foreign Minister, Aziz Pahad was scheduled to represent South Africa at the meeting.
