Deputy President Jacob Zuma to Attend Matola Raid Commemoration Ceremony,
Mozambique, 14 February 2004

Deputy President Jacob Zuma will, on Saturday 14 February 2004, lead a South African delegation to the Matola Raid Commemoration Ceremony in Mozambique.

The ceremony, organised by the South African High Commission in Maputo in co-operation with the Freedom Park Trust, commemorates the raid by the then South African Defence Force (SADF) on ANC homes in Matola in which 12 ANC freedom fighters were killed.

The commemoration ceremony is linked to events marking the Ten Years celebrations of South Africa's democracy, peace, freedom and justice.

Traditional healers from the two countries will perform the cleansing ceremony before church leaders conduct the healing ceremony at the site in Matola on Friday, 13 February 2004. This will be followed by the official commemoration ceremony on Saturday, 14 February 2004.
