President Mbeki to attend APR Forum and NEPAD Heads of State
and Government Implementation Committee Meeting, Algiers, Algeria Tuesday, 23
November 2004 President Thabo Mbeki will later on Monday 22 November 2004
travel to Algeria to attend the Summit of the NEPAD Heads of State and Government
Implementation Committee (HSGIC). President Mbeki will during this visit also
attend the Second Meeting of the Forum of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM)
scheduled for Tuesday, 23 November 2004. The Summit will provide an opportunity
to review progress since the last meeting held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and is
expected to focus on: · The outcomes of the Africa Partnership Forum
held in Washington from 3-4 October 2004; · The NEPAD Multi-Stakeholder
Dialogue held in Sandton, South Africa from 22-23 October 2004; · NEPAD
integration into the AU structures and financing for development issues; and ·
A progress report on programme implementation. The African Peer Review
Forum (APRF) meeting on the other hand will review progress in the operationalisation
of the decisions of the 1st APRF, particularly relating to the reviews of Ghana,
Rwanda, Mauritius and Kenya. Upon his return from Algeria, President Mbeki
is expected to conclude his bilateral discussions with the Vietnamese Prime Minister
Phan Van Khai, on Wednesday 24 November at the Union Buildings, Pretoria. Issued
