President Thabo Mbeki to Attend NEPAD Heads of State Implementation Committee Meeting, Kigali, Rwanda, 13 - 15 February 2004

President Thabo Mbeki will attend the NEPAD Steering Committee, Heads of State Implementation Committee Meeting (HSGIC), and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Forum of participating Heads of State and Government respectively from Friday-Sunday 13-15 February 2004 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Steering Committee meeting and HSGIC will review progress made during 2003 in the implementation of the NEPAD economic revival programme, determine the agenda for 2004 and examine outstanding issues arising from the last HSGIC held in Maputo, Mozambique on 9 July 2003.

Discussions will also include, among others, regional economic plans for the implementation of the NEPAD programme and multilateral trade negotiations.

Support for NEPAD continues to grow and a firm foundation for sustained implementation at a much higher level is being established with the Secretariat and Steering Committee are now focusing on facilitating, expediting, coordinating and energizing implementation.

The APRM meetings will discuss the way forward in the APRM process leading to the start of the first set of country reviews since these countries will be decided upon at the meeting.
