Advisory: President Thabo Mbeki to Award National Orders, 9 June 2004

President Thabo Mbeki will award the fourth round of National Orders on 16 June 2004. The ceremony will be held at the Union Buildings in Pretoria. The following orders will be awarded:

The Order of Baobab

This Order is awarded to South African citizens for distinguished service. The service awarded is well above and beyond the ordinary call of duty. It is an award for exceptional and distinguished service.

The Order of the Companions of OR Tambo

This Order is awarded to foreign nationals (Heads of State and Government) and other foreign dignitaries. It is to be awarded for friendship shown to South Africa. It is an order of peace, co-operation and active expression of solidarity and support.

The Order of Luthuli

The Order is awarded to South Africans who have made a meaningful contribution to the struggle for democracy, human rights, nation-building, justice and peace, and conflict resolution.
