President Mbeki congratulates President Elect of Romania

President Thabo Mbeki, today - Tuesday, 14 December 2004, conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to Traian Basescu, President-Elect of Romania following weekend elections.

President Mbeki said, "Your Excellency, I have the honour to convey to you, on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of South Africa, sincere congratulations on your election as President of Romania on 12 December 2004."

"May I take this opportunity to assure Your Excellency of my Government's continued goodwill and desire to work towards a further deepening of bilateral relations between the Republic of South Africa and Romania. I am sure that the existing good relations between our two countries built over the last years will continue to grow and prosper under your able leadership," concluded President Mbeki.
