Minister Dlamini Zuma Arrives in Mauritius
Ahead of SADC Council of Ministers Meeting
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma
has arrived in Port Louis, Mauritius, where she will
lead the South African Ministerial delegation to the
Council of Ministers Meeting scheduled for Friday, 13
- Sunday, 15 August 2004.
The Ministerial delegation is expected to include Ministers
of Health and Trade and Industry - Manto Tshabalala-Msimang
and Mandisi Mpahlwa respectively; and Deputy Ministers
of Foreign Affairs, Minerals and Energy and Social Development
- Aziz Pahad, Lulu Xingwana and Jean Benjamin respectively.
The Council of Ministers will deliberate and discuss
issues that will serve as a basis for recommendations
to the SADC Heads of State and Government Summit due
on 16-17 August 2004.
President Thabo Mbeki will lead the South African delegation
to the SADC Heads of State and Government Summit.
The SADC Heads of State and Government Summit will
receive recommendations from the Council of Ministers
on the following issues, among others:
- A report on developments around the operationalisation
of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security. South
Africa will assume the Chairpersonship of the SADC
Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Co-operation.
- Review of the regional, political, economic and
social developments with special reference to agriculture,
food security, gender and HIV and Aids.
- The final report of the Review Committee on the
Implementation of the Restructuring Exercise of SADC
Institutions.
- The status of the ratification and implementation
of SADC Protocols.
- The report of the Integrated Committee of Ministers.
- A report on gender equality.
- Progress in terms of the operationalisation of the
African Union including:
- The operationalisation of the Protocol Relating
to the establishment of the Peace and Security Council
(PSC) of the AU;
- The Draft Protocol to the AU Convention on the Prevention
and Combating of Terrorism;
- The launching and establishment of the Pan-African
Parliament;
- The Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC)
of the AU.
- The implementation of NEPAD and the outcomes of
the high level NEPAD Meeting of SADC members scheduled
for 12 August 2004.
- Summit will be briefed by South Africa on arrangements
for the hosting of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
