Minister Dlamini Zuma to Host Mr. Habib
Ben Yahia, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Republic
of Tunisia, 9 - 10 July 2004
Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Minister of Foreign Affairs,
will host Mr. Habib Ben Yahia, Minister for Foreign
Affairs of Republic of Tunisia, from the 9th -10th July
2004, for the Fourth South Africa-Tunisia Bilateral
Commission in Pretoria.
The fourth session of the Joint Bilateral Commission
will cover political and economic discussions. Economic
Cooperation in terms of Trade, Industrial Cooperation,
Air and Merchant Shipping Transportation, Health, Agriculture,
Protection and Guarantee of Investments and Third Country
Cooperation as well as Arts, Culture, Science and Technology
will also be on the agenda. Thereafter, Ministers Dlamini
Zuma and Yahia are expected to sign bilateral cooperation
agreements.
Since 1993, relations between South Africa and Tunisia
have progressed, with the first Joint Bilateral Commission
(1996) between the two countries deepening the relationship.
Mr. Aziz Pahad, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs visited
Tunisia together with a business delegation, further
strengthening and deepening the cordial political relations
between the two Governments. Over the years, the political,
commercial, cultural and sporting relations have continued
to deepen with various High Level exchanges between
South Africa and Tunisia.
Whilst South Africa and Tunisia bilateral cooperation
continues to broaden and deepen, collaboration at the
multilateral level and international forum continues
to flourish. Both countries not only have common membership
of a number of international bodies, but also have a
common vision on a range of issues. Both countries are
African Union founding members and have signed and ratified
its Constitutive Act. They are active supporters of
the NEPAD initiative. Tunisia's President, H.E. President
Ben Ali is the chair of the NEPAD's Information Communication
Technologies Committee.
