President Mbeki departs New York for
South Africa
President and Mrs Thabo Mbeki departed New York yesterday,
Wednesday - 22 September 2004 - following his historic
address to the 59th session of the United Nations General
Assembly ahead of Heritage Day Celebrations to be held
in Kimberley.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma
remains in New York to continue leading the South African
delegation to the United Nations General Assembly.
In that context Minister Dlamini Zuma is today, Thursday
- 23 September 2004 - scheduled to hold the following
bilateral meetings:
- Indian Foreign Minister, Natwar Singh;
- Sudanese Foreign Minister, Mustafa Ismail;
- Secretary-General of the League of Arab States,
Amre Moussa;
- Gambian Foreign Minister, Baboucarr Jagne ahead
of the scheduled working visit by the President of
Gambia, Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh to South Africa
from Tuesday, 28 to Thursday, 30 September 2004;
- Syrian Foreign Minister, Dr Satouk Sharaa;
- Brazilian Foreign Minister, Dr Celso Amorim; and
- Angolan Foreign Minister, Joao Miranda.
Minister Dlamini Zuma is further expected to attend
the following meetings:
- Working meeting of the India - Brazil - South Africa
(IBSA) Dialogue Foreign Ministers;
- Proposed Ministerial meeting of the Comprehensive
Test Ban Treaty Friends;
- European Union (EU) lunch in honour of the Chairman
of the African Union (AU) and other key players on
the Sudan which includes the AU, South Africa, Egypt,
Algeria, Nigeria, Angola, France, United Kingdom (UK),
Germany, Luxembourg, and the EU;
- Meeting of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) Troika
and former chairpersons of NAM on the Secretary-General
Kofi Annan's High Level Panel on Threats, Challenges
and Change;
- Chair the Commonwealth Ministerial group on Guyana;
and
Attend the opening celebration and launch of Season
South Africa organised by the South African Embassy
in Washington.
