on 19 July 2004, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes
to put the following on record:
- The SA diplomatic mission in Washington has not
yet had permission granted for consular access to
the suspect.
- Consequently, no confirmation has been received
regarding the nationality of the suspect.
- Our information indicates she was arrested at McAllen
border town, near Texas in the USA
- Our diplomatic mission in Washington has indicated
that she is being charged for the following:
4.1 illegal entry into the USA
4.2 making a material false statement to a Federal
officer
4.3 altering a passport for purposes of residing in
the USA
The SA Diplomatic mission will continue with its endeavours
to seek permission from the USA authorities for access
to the suspect, with a view to offering consular services
once the nationality of the suspect has been confirmed
as South African.
