MR WJ SEREMANE (DA) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS:

(1) Whether her attention has been drawn to the contents of a recent Amnesty International report on Swaziland which warns of a profound humanitarian crisis in Swaziland; if not, why not; if so,

(2) whether her department intends taking any steps to ensure that human rights and democracy are respected in Swaziland; if not, why not; if so, what steps? N458E

REPLY:

1. Yes, the Department of Foreign Affairs is fully aware of the recent Amnesty International report on Swaziland.

2. The Department continuously engages the Swazis on issues of mutual interest at various levels.
