PUBLISHED IN INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER NO 20 OF 03 SEPTEMBER 2004

MR LB LABUSCHAGNE (DA) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS:

(1) Whether (a) she, (b) her Deputy Ministers or (c) any officials of her ministry or department were invited to attend the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens; if so, (I) which persons and officials and (ii) at whose invitation in each case;

(2) Whether (a) she, (b) her Deputy Ministers or (c) any officials accepted the invitation; if so, (I) why and (ii) how many days was each away from work as a result;

(3) Whether any costs were incurred by the taxpayer as a result of the trip in respect of each specified person; if not, what factors were taken into consideration in reaching this conclusion; if so, (a) what were the costs in respect of each specified person and (b) in respect of what items was this expenditure incurred;

(4) Whether she and/or her Deputy Ministers have declared the trip as a gift in terms of the Executive Members' Code of Conduct; if not, why not; if so, what is the estimated value of this hospitality? N836E

REPLY:

(1) Yes. The Minister was invited by the Greek Foreign Minister during the last official visit to Athens, Greece.

(2) No.

(3) Falls away.
