Invitation to International Human Rights Day Celebrations - Ditsobotla

The 16 Days of Activism programme comes to a close on Friday, 10 December 2005. This national event to mark International Human Rights Day will this year be celebrated in the Province at Lichtenburg Rugby Stadium from 09:00.

The Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka is expected to speak at this occasion, which will also mark the start of the Arrive Alive Campaign.

The day's programme promises to be an exciting one. The two-phased programme will commence in Mafikeng at 06:00 with the Executive Mayor Councillor Nomvula Hlangwana handing over the Torch of Peace to cyclists who will cycle to Lichtenburg.

Meanwhile at Lonely Park in Mafikeng, two identified destitute families will receive keys to their newly-built houses from the Premier. This activity will be followed by a symbolic bricklaying ceremony at the Mafikeng Secure Centre.

In Lichtenburg the cyclists, led by a renowned North West athlete and North West under 23 footballers who collected gold medals in Australia recently, will hand over the Torch of Peace to dignitaries at the stadium.

Entertainment at the event will be from Mafikizolo, Ringo Mnandlingozi and local artists. Media is invited to be part of this occasion.
