Foreign Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma arrives in Niger for
Bilateral Discussions, Wednesday, 06 April 2005 Niamey - South African Foreign
Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma arrived in Niger on Tuesday 5 April ahead of
bilateral political and economic discussions her Niger counterpart Minister of
Foreign Affairs, Co-operation and African Integration Alchatou Mindaoudou in Niamey,
today Wednesday 6 April 2005. The visit is part of efforts by South Africa
to build strong, vibrant and strategic bilateral political and economic relations
with sister African countries within the context of the overall objective of working
for the renewal of Africa and the creation of a better world. Issues on
the agenda of bilateral consultations between Ministers Dlamini Zuma and Mindaoudou
include among others: - The consolidation of bilateral political and
economic relations between both countries - including the opening of a South African
diplomatic mission in Niamey, a bilateral air services agreement and the promotion
of South African investment in Niger's mining and agricultural sector;
- The
consolidation of the African agenda through the African Union (AU) and its institutions;
and
- Regional conflicts with particular reference to the situation in the
Ivory Coast and Togo.
On conclusion of the discussions with her counterpart,
Minister Dlamini Zuma is expected to pay a courtesy call on President Mamadou
Tandja, Prime Minister Hama Amadou, and Speaker Mahamane Ouismane. Minister
Dlamini Zuma and her delegation will depart from Niamey for Tindouf on Thursday,
7 April 2005, where she will pay the first ever high level visit to the Saharawi
Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) since official recognition by South Africa in
