Minister Dlamini Zuma Concludes Visit to Ghana and Proceeds
to Nigeria Accra - South African Foreign Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini
Zuma today - Wednesday, 26 January 2005 - concluded a visit to Ghana where she
led the South African delegation to the African Union (AU) Ministerial Preparatory
Meeting on the Common Defence, Security and Non-Aggression Pact, ahead of the
AU Executive Council of Foreign Ministers meeting scheduled for Thursday - Friday,
27-28 January 2005 in Abuja, Nigeria. Earlier this week, Minister Dlamini
Zuma signed a Joint Co-operation Agreement with her Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed
Vail Ould Belial focusing on the different fields of co-operation ranging from
trade and industry; to minerals and energy; fisheries; maritime; transport; infrastructure
and education. Minister Dlamini Zuma is expected to table a report following
deliberations of the Ministerial Preparatory Meeting on the Common Defence, Security
and Non-Aggression Pact at the AU Executive Council of Ministers Meeting. The
AU Executive Council of Foreign Ministers meeting is expected to discuss and make
recommendations on the following issues: · Peace initiatives in Burundi,
DRC, Ivory Coast and Sudan; · Implementation of NEPAD; ·
Programme of action for the AU for 2005; and · Budget of the organisation
for 2005. Deliberations and recommendations of the AU Executive Council
of Foreign Ministers will serve as a basis for discussions by the AU Heads of
State and Government Summit scheduled for Sunday - Monday, 30-31 January 2005.
