Minister Dlamini Zuma to Conclude Visit to the UN General Assembly ahead of Bilateral Visit to the Bahamas

New York-South African Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will later today, Tuesday 20 September 2005, wind her visit to New York, where she is leading the South African Government delegation to the 60th Session of the UN General Assembly, ahead of her scheduled bilateral visit to Bahamas.

Minister Dlamini Zuma was part of a delegation lead by President Thabo Mbeki to the UN Millennium Review Summit and the 60th Session of the UN General Assembly to deliberate upon progress made in the implementation of the millennium development goals and the comprehensive reform of the UN.

Accordingly, Minister Dlamini Zuma, supported by Ambassador George Nene and Basso Sangqu will later today, hold a last bilateral discussions with her British counterpart, Foreign Secretary Jack Straw; Dr. Javier Solana the EU's High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy; Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Osman Ismail and the Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmad Walid Sayd Ahmad.

The bilateral discussions followed outcomes at both the Millennium Review Summit and the 60th Session of the UN General Assembly. In addition, Minister Dlamini Zuma will attend the last session of the Non-Aligned Movement Ministerial meeting also to discuss the outcome of the Summits.

In Bahamas, Minister Dlamini Zuma will lead the South African Government delegation to the joint SA-Bahamas Bilateral Commission beginning on Friday 23 September 2005, aimed at consolidating political, economic and trade relations between South Africa and Bahamas.
