Deputy President Jacob Zuma discusses Burundi Peace Process with President Museveni

Deputy President Jacob Zuma met with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda, in Kampala, Uganda, this afternoon, 15 March 2005.

Deputy President Zuma is the facilitator of the Burundi Peace Process and President Museveni is the Chairperson of the Great Lakes Regional Initiative on Burundi.

The purpose of the meeting was to review the progress made in the peace process in Burundi and to discuss the way forward.

The Meeting recommitted itself to the time table as approved by the Heads of State on 15 October 2004.

The meeting also recognised that the efforts of all stakeholders in the Peace Process will have to be strengthened during this period.

The Facilitator undertook to send a technical team to Burundi to assess progress.
