Deputy Minister Aziz Pahad Arrives in China Ahead of Official
Visit Scheduled from 22-23 September 2005 Beijing - South African Deputy
Foreign Minister Aziz Pahad has arrived in Beijing, China where he is scheduled
to pay an official visit from Thursday-Friday 22 to 23 September 2005. This
is the second leg of a three nation visit to the region that comes in the context
of South Africa's commitment to consolidate bilateral, political and economic
relations with all countries of the South in order to create the conditions for
the developmental agenda of the South to be achieved. Deputy Minister Aziz Pahad
yesterday, Wednesday 21 September 2005, concluded a visit to South Korea and is
scheduled to visit North Korea from Saturday-Tuesday, 24 to 27 September 2005.
Deputy Minister Aziz Pahad is scheduled to hold bilateral, political and
economic discussions with Chinese Vice Minister Qiao Zonghuai in Beijing tomorrow
Friday, 23 September 2005. Issues on the agenda of discussion are expected
to include, among others: - The status of bilateral, political and economic
relations between China and South Africa;
- Development in the region with
particular reference to the agreement reached in the 6-party talks on Monday 19
September 2005;
- A briefing by Deputy Minister Pahad on developments in
Africa and the SADC region;
- A discussion on the outcome of the recently
held Millennium Development Review Summit and 60th session of the United Nations
General Assembly in New York; and
- Other issues of mutual interest.
Later
today, Deputy Minister Aziz Pahad is also scheduled to hold discussions with Vice
Minister Dai Bingguo.
