Minister Dlamini Zuma Arrives in Cuba Ahead of the Joint SA-Cuba
Bilateral Commission Havana - South African Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma arrived in Cuba, yesterday, Monday 26 September from
Bahamas, ahead of the Joint South Africa-Cuba Bilateral Commission meeting scheduled
for Wednesday and Thursday 28-29 September in Havana. Minister Dlamini Zuma
is leading a delegation of senior South African government officials comprising
among others, South Africa's Ambassador to Cuba Thenjiwe Mtintso, Directors-General
of Health, Public Works and Social Development Thami Mseleku, James Maseko and
Vusi Madonsela respectively, Foreign Affairs Deputy Director-General Ndumiso Ntshinga,
Ambassador Mbulelo Rakwena and the Minister's political advisor Tiny Maya. The
Joint Commission meeting will be preceded, today Tuesday 27 September, by a meeting
of experts in the fields of foreign affairs, health, education, public works,
agriculture, housing, transport, social development, trade and industry, science
and technology, water affairs and forestry. The Joint SA-Cuba Bilateral
Commission was established in February 2001 with a view to strengthening and consolidating
economic, scientific, technical and business co-operation between the two countries.
At a political level, South Africa and Cuba enjoy friendly and cordial
relations developed during the struggle against apartheid and formalised into
state to state relations with the dawn of peace, democracy and justice in South
