Minister Dlamini Zuma to Hold Bilateral Discussions with her
Cuban Counterpart, 28 September 2005 Havana- South African Minister of Foreign
Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma is expected to hold bilateral political discussions
with her Cuban counterpart, Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque later today, Wednesday
28 September in the Cuban capital, Havana. Minister Dlamini Zuma is in Cuba,
leading a senior South African government officials delegation including South
Africa's Ambassador to Cuba, Thenjiwe Mtintso, Directors-General of Health, Public
Works and Social Development and high ranking foreign affairs officials to the
4th Session of the Joint South Africa-Cuba Bilateral Commission on economic, scientific,
technical and business co-operation between the two countries. The bilateral
discussions between the two Ministers takes place against the background of the
recent outcomes of the Millennium Review Summit and the 60th Session of the UN
General Assembly and will assess progress made in cementing bilateral political
relations between the two countries. Following political discussions, Minister
Dlamini Zuma will co-chair the opening session of the Joint South Africa-Cuba
Bilateral Commission with Ms. Martha Lomas of the Foreign Investment and Economic
Co-operation of Cuba focusing on economic and trade links while looking at possible
future co-operation projects between the two countries. Later in the day,
Minister Dlamini Zuma is expected to lay a wreath at the Statue of the Cuban national
hero Jose' Marti before visiting Havana's Colon cemetery to pay her respects at
the Pantheon for the Cuban internationalists who paid the supreme price during
the wars of liberation and in defence of independence in the continent of Africa. Minister
Dlamini Zuma arrived in Cuba on Monday 26 September from Freeport where she co-chaired
a successful joint South Africa- Bahamas Bilateral Commission held in the Commonwealth
