President Thabo Mbeki to Travel to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Following Visit to Ivory Coast

Abidjan - South African President Thabo Mbeki, will on conclusion of his visit to the Ivory Coast depart for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) tomorrow - Wednesday, 12 January 2005 - as part of efforts to consolidate the peace process in the DRC.

In that context he will hold strategic bilateral discussions with President Joseph Kabila to discuss among others, the transitional processes in the DRC and the elections scheduled to be held in June 2005.

President Mbeki who is accompanied by Minister of Defence, Mosiuoa Lekota and Deputy Foreign Minister, Aziz Pahad will today, Tuesday - 11 January 2005 - conclude his visit to the Ivory Coast where he held discussions with President Laurent Gbagbo and Prime Minister Seydou Diarra.

Discussions focused on the implementation of the roadmap developed by all parties in the Ivory Coast following consultations with President Mbeki since 9 November 2004.
