Media Update on South Africans in Equatorial Guinea: Joint Statement
between the Departments of Foreign Affairs, Republic of South Africa and the Republic
of Equatorial Guinea A delegation of senior officials of the Departments
of Foreign Affairs of South Africa and Equatorial Guinea met in Tshwane yesterday,
Monday, 19 December 2005 to discuss the matter of the two South Africans, Ruwayda
Kaldine and Seshan Pillay, currently in Equatorial Guinea due to their passports
having been confiscated. Discussions between the two delegations also centered
on contractual matters of concern to Equatorial Guinea. The discussions
were held in a cordial manner reflecting the good relations between the two countries.
It was resolved that the passports of Ruwayda Kaldine and Seshan Pillay be returned
to them to leave Malabo as soon as possible. The Department of Foreign Affairs
undertook to facilitate meetings with the South African companies as requested
by the Equatorial Guinea. The delegation from Equatorial Guinea was led
by the Secretary General of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Anastacio Asumu Mum. Other members
were Mr. Antonio Nsue Nguema, Attorney General of the High Court of the country,
Advocate Leoncio Andres Ondo Modjo and Mr. Matias Mba Madja, a representative
of the Ministry of Finance. The Ambassador of Equatorial Guinea in South Africa,
