Media Statement on Fundraising Golf Day hosted by Mrs Zanele
Mbeki Mrs Zanele Mbeki will Saturday 6 August 2005 host a fundraising Golf
Day at the Bryntirion Estate Golf Course in Tshwane where members of the cabinet
and senior government officials will take on captains of business in a game of
golf. Proceeds of the golf day will go to the Nations Trust, an organisation
(NGO) established in 1995 to fund and support youth business development. The
Nations Trust has put development programmes in place with revenue from donor
funds. One of the main donors, charged with the task of arranging the golf
day, the Afrikaanse Handelsinstituut (AHI), has over the past eight years, made
the proceeds of its annual AHI Prestige Golf Day available to the Nations Trust
to fund its programmes. Members of Parliament have over the years supported
the AHI in staging this event, which also serves as an occasion for members of
the public and the private sector to meet and interact in an informal environment.
In keeping with this tradition, at the August 2005 Golf Day, there will be a social
programme, running concurrently with the main event, meant to cater for non-golfers
from the government and the business sectors. Mrs Mbeki has called on members
of the business fraternity to support this initiative and to join in their numbers
on this occasion in aid of this worthy cause. [Ends] For more information
