President Thabo Mbeki Extends Condolences to India Following Death of Former President KR Narayanan

Tshwane - South African President Thabo Mbeki, today Wednesday 9 November 2005, joined the international community in extending the condolences of the government and people of South Africa to President Abdul Kalam, the government and people of India following the passing away of former President KR Narayanan in New Delhi earlier today.

In a diplomatic note, President Mbeki said, "Please accept the sincere condolences of the government and people of South Africa following the passing away of former President KR Narayanan in New Delhi earlier today, Wednesday 9 November 2005."

"We remember fondly that during his tenure as President from 1997-2002, the historic relations between South Africa and India continued to grow from strength to strength."

"The government and people of South Africa share in your pain and sorrow during this time of bereavement. Accordingly, please accept our deepest sympathies to the government and people of India especially members of President Narayanan's family," concluded President Mbeki.
