Deputy Minister Pahad Concludes Visit to Iran

TEHRAN: South African Deputy Foreign Minister Aziz Pahad concluded his visit to Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on Friday, 11 November 2005. Deputy Minister Pahad had visited Iran as part of a NAM Troika delegation including the Foreign Ministers of Malaysia and Cuba at the invitation of the Iranian Foreign Minister, Mr Manouchehr Mottaki.

The NAM Troika met with Mr Mottaki and with Dr Ali Larijani, the Secretary-General of the National Supreme Security Council of Iran, in order to discuss issues related to Iran's peaceful use of nuclear technology in the context of the IAEA.

The Board of Governors of the IAEA is due to consider Iran's nuclear programme at its next meeting scheduled for 24 November 2005.

Deputy Minister Pahad will return to South Africa on Saturday, 12 November 2005.
