President Thabo Mbeki Offers Condolences to Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi Following Train Crash in Amagasaki

Pretoria - South African President Thabo Mbeki today, Monday 25 April 2005 extended his heartfelt condolences to Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi following the train crash in Amagasaki, west of Tokyo in which 53 people died and 400 injured.

President Mbeki said, "Prime Minister Koizumi, on behalf of the government and people of South Africa, please accept my heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Japan, especially the families in Amagasaki of those who have lost loved ones."

"Accordingly we share in the pain and grief of the people of Japan during this trying moment."
"Indeed, we join you in prayer and thought during this time of national mourning," concluded President Mbeki.
