Deputy President Jacob Zuma pays a courtesy call to King Abdullah
II Deputy President Jacob Zuma met with His Majesty King Abdullah II of
the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, today, on 20 May 2005, at the Dead Sea in Jordan.
The two leaders discussed bilateral matters as well as the process and
need for peace and stability in the Middle East. The Deputy President also met
with the Vice-Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Mr Ehud Olmert. The
Deputy President is in Jordan leading a South African government delegation attending
the World Economic Forum (WEF), under the theme "Seizing the Moment"
at the Dead Sea. He is accompanied by Ministers Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and Mandisi
Mpahlwa and Deputy Minister Aziz Pahad. Tomorrow, 21 May, he will participate
in a panel discussion during the session entitled: "Seizing the Moment: People
Power and Change in the Middle East." The session will focus on, amongst
other issues, the already held national elections in Iraq and the Palestinian
territories, and elections to be held in Lebanon and Egypt as well as the movement
towards democracy in the Arab World. The Deputy President will return to
