South African Government Condemns Coup in Mauritania Addis
Ababa - The South African government joins the international community and the
African Union in particular in condemning the unconstitutional transfer of power
in Nouakchott, Mauritania, yesterday 3 August 2005. The South African government
reiterates the AU position that any unconstitutional transfer of power will not
be countenanced by leaders of the African continent. In this regard we join
the international community and the AU in particular, in calling for the return
to the rule of law and the constitutionality in Mauritania. Issued by Ronnie
