Confirmation of a South African on Board the Ill-Fated Nigerian Plane

Tshwane - The Department of Foreign Affairs regrettably confirms that a South African, Ms. Adele Lorenzo was indeed on board the Bellview Airlines plane that crashed near Lagos, in Nigeria on Saturday 22 October 2005.

In this regard, the Department has been in contact with Ms. Lorenzo's family regarding these developments and stands ready to assist the family in whatever manner possible. Meanwhile, the South African Consul General in Lagos remains in contact with both the Nigerian Foreign Ministry and the Civil Aviation Authorities for further information on the matter.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma reiterates the heartfelt condolences of the government and people of South Africa to all those families that lost their loved ones in this tragic accident.

"Indeed our thoughts and prayers reach out to those who lost their loved ones and offer our humble support during these trying moments," said Minister Dlamini Zuma.
