Department of Foreign Affairs, the United Nations Information Centre and the Embassy of the State of Palestine, to Commemorate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, 29 November 2005

The Department of Foreign Affairs, together with the United Nations Information Centre and the Embassy of the State of Palestine, will commemorate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People today, Tuesday 29 November 2005.

Every year since 1994 the South African Government, as a member of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, has participated in the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

The South African government's message of support in this regard will be presented by Minister of Safety and Security, Charles Nqakula. This statement will also be published and read at the UN commemoration ceremonies in Geneva and New York on Tuesday, 29 November 2005.

Statements will also be presented on behalf of the President of the Palestinian Authority and the United Nations Secretary General at the Tshwane commemoration ceremony.
