Foreign Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma to hold Bilateral
Discussions in Moscow Moscow - South African Foreign Minister Dr Nkosazana
Dlamini Zuma will today Tuesday, 12 July 2005 hold bilateral political and economic
discussions with her Russian counterpart, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow,
the Russian Federation. The visit comes in the context of South Africa's
commitment to the consolidation of the African agenda through the promotion of
North-South co-operation in support of the African agenda through among others
interaction with countries of the G-8. Issues on the agenda of both bilateral
discussions include among others: - The status of bilateral political
and economic relations between both countries;
- The outcomes of the recently
concluded G-8 Summit;
- A briefing by Minister Dlamini Zuma to her counterpart
on the recently concluded Ivorian Peace Talks;
- Conflict resolution in
Africa;
- Reform of the United Nations; and
- Preparations for the
Review of the Millennium Development Summit in New York later this year.
Minister
Dlamini Zuma was yesterday Monday, 11 July 2005 awarded by the Russian Federation
the Order of Peter the Great, "for outstanding achievements in her endevours
to strengthen the security, peace and friendship between the peoples of Russia
and South Africa and widening mutually beneficial co-operation between the two
sovereign states and for her personal input to the development of bilateral relations
between Russia and South Africa." (citation) Minister Dlamini Zuma
is only the second person to be honoured with the honour of Peter the Great after
Russian President Vladimir Putin. Upon conclusion of discussions with her
Russian counterpart Minister Dlamini Zuma will depart for Paris where she is scheduled
to hold bilateral discussions with her French counterpart, Foreign Minister Philippe
