Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aziz Pahad to attend SADC Ministerial Meeting, Port Louis, Mauritius,Thursday, 24 - Friday, 25 February 2005

Pretoria - South African Deputy Foreign Minister Aziz Pahad will attend he SADC Council of Ministers meeting in Grand Baie, Mauritius from hursday - Friday, 24-25 February 2005.

The South African delegation will be led by Minister of Trade and Industry, Mandisi Mpahlwa.

Issues on the agenda of discussions will include, among others:

  • A report of the SADC Troika;
  • A report on the Extraordinary Summit of the African Union (AU) held in Abuja, Nigeria from 30-31 January 2005;
  • The operationalisation of NEPAD;
  • Progress on the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals;
  • The African Peer Review Mechanism;
  • SADC-EU Co-operation with specific reference to the Berlin Initiative;
  • Economic partnership agreements with specific reference to the ACP-EU Negotiations; and
  • The commemoration of the 25th anniversary of SADC.

Deputy Minister Pahad will return to South Africa on Sunday, 27 February 2005 ahead of the SADC Workshop on Election Guidelines scheduled for 28 February - 1 March in Maseru, Lesotho.
