Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Leads an AU Ministerial Delegation to the International Conference on Sudan in Oslo Norway, 11 - 12 April 2004

PRETORIA - The South African Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will upon her return from a three-African nation visit on Saturday 09 April 2005 immediately undertake a visit to Oslo, Norway to discuss the reconstruction and development requirements of the Sudan with international donor partners, from 11-12 April 2005.

Minister Dlamini Zuma was on an official visit to Niger, Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic and Sao Tome and Principe, as part of efforts to consolidate bilateral, political and economic ties between South Africa and the three African countries within the context of South Africa's overall objective for the renewal of Africa and the creation of a better world.

In Oslo, Minister Dlamini Zuma, will in her capacity as Chair of the AU Ministerial Committee on the post-conflict reconstruction of the Sudan, lead and eight-member delegation to the international donor conference on the Sudan. In this regard, Minister Dlamini Zuma will present a report on the factual situation in the Sudan and make recommendations about the necessary interventions and also help identify the role of international donor partners in the reconstruction and development of the Sudan.

Minister Dlamini Zuma's delegation includes Foreign Ministers of Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Nigeria and Sudan.

The presentation at the conference will include inputs from representatives of the African Union, the United Nations, the World Bank, IGAD, the European Union, the Arab League, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and the Joint National Transitional Team of Sudan (composed of leaders of the Government of Sudan and the Leadership of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement).

Minister Dlamini Zuma will return to South Africa on Wednesday 13 April 2005 ahead of her budget vote speech, scheduled for Friday 15 April 2005 in Parliament, Cape Town.
