President Thabo Mbeki congratulates Government and People of Tanzania on successfully concluded Elections

Tshwane - South African President Thabo Mbeki today Tuesday 20 December 2005 conveyed the congratulations of the South African government and people to the government and people of Tanzania following their third successful election since gaining independence in 1961.

In a message of support to the President-elect Jakaya Kikwete, President Mbeki said, "Once more the sun has shone on efforts of the African people to entrench democracy, stability and good governance with the successful holding of yet another peaceful election in Tanzania."

"In this regard, the government and people of South Africa join the leadership and people of SADC and the African continent in general in congratulating you on your election as Tanzania's president-designate."

"We remain convinced that through your election, South Africa and Tanzania, will continue to strengthen and expand existing political, economic, cultural and trade links between our two countries."

"Accordingly, we are of the conviction, that the sun shall continue to shine on our efforts as we consolidate our work in SADC and the African Union in pursuance of fundamental social and economic transformation of our continent with a view to a better life for all our people and thus the realisation of the African Renaissance," concluded President Thabo Mbeki.
