Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka to Address the United
Bank of Switzerland's (UBS) 2005 South Africa One-on-One Conference Tshwane
- South African Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will present a keynote
address at the United Bank of Switzerland's (UBS) 2005 South Africa One-on-One
Conference in London on Friday, 16 September 2005. Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka's
delegation includes Ministers Thoko Didiza and Martinus van Schalkwyk and Deputy
Minister Jabu Moleketi. This visit comes within the context of the mandate
bestowed on Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka by President Mbeki to give leadership
in South Africa's efforts to speed up growth and development in the building of
a better South Africa for all who live within it. In this regard, Deputy
President Mlambo-Ngcuka is expected to address representatives of among others,
AECI, Anglo Platinum, Anglogold, Edgars, Goldfields, Harmony, Impala Platinum,
Investec Mvela, MTN, Standard Bank and Telkom on matters in the South African
economy relating to growth, labour, investment, black economic empowerment and
the South African government's position on the positioning of Africa in the global
economy and South Africa's role on the Continent. Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka
is also expected to pay a courtesy call on British Deputy Prime Minister John
Prescott on Thursday, 15 September 2005. Also on Thursday, 15 September
2005, Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka will receive the World Nuclear Association's
Award for the distinguished contribution to the peaceful global use of nuclear
energy. This has been awarded to Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka for her "valuable
contribution in moving the nation of South Africa (as former Minister of Minerals
and Energy) toward a higher realisation of its potential to benefit from nuclear
energy," said Director-General of the World Nuclear Association, John Ritch. Issued
