Minister Zola Skweyiya Leads South African Delegation to London Solidarity Conference, London, United Kingdom Friday, 3 - Saturday, 4 June 2005

Washington - South African Minister of Social Development Dr Zola Skweyiya will lead a South African delegation to the London Solidarity Conference scheduled for Friday-Saturday 3-4 June 2005.

The conference was scheduled to be addressed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, who due to the death of her sister in law, Ms. Fikile Dlamini, could no longer attend the Conference.

The conference entitled, "South Africa's 2nd Decade of Freedom: Developing Partnerships and Solidarity between Britain and South Africa," is a follow-up to the London Solidarity Conference held in October 2003 to review progress and developments since the advent of democracy in 1994 in South Africa.
Minister Zola Skweyiya will present an address entitled, "The Challenges of South Africa's 2nd Decade of Freedom: The South African Perspective," on Saturday, 4 June 2005.

Participants in the Conference will include South Africa's High Commissioner to London, Dr Lindiwe Mabuza, British Secretary of State for International Development Hilary Benn MP, United Kingdom High Commissioner Designate to South Africa Paul Boateng, Frank Dobson MP and Hugh Bayley MP.

The Solidarity Conference celebrates the support of the British people, acting mainly through the British Anti-Apartheid Movement, in the fight against apartheid. The movement also worked for the freedom of all Southern African countries that were still under colonial and apartheid rule.
